In the mid 1990s, the disease was renamed as ADHD, to include the hyperactivity symptom, along with the attention deficit symptoms. It is only in the past few years that the disease has received wide spread awareness and recognition. Will Smith: This world famous rapper, actor and producer, is understood to have suffered from ADHD in his childhood. It was not diagnosed nor has he come out openly to say that he has ADHD but he has narrated instances from his childhood and also said that he suffered from bouts of inattention.
Based on this information, experts suggest that he may be suffering from ADHD. HE has also said that he has trouble with reading. This is also common symptom of people with ADHD. In spite of these problems and without the help of diagnosis and treatment Will Smith has been able to achieve success in his life and that too in many fields.
Michael Phelps: This multiple gold medal winning champion swimmer suffers from ADHD. Phelps had a difficult childhood and his mother describes his ADHD symptoms in great detail. As a child, Phelps was always fidgety and could no focus or concentrate on any topic for a reasonable amount of time. He also displayed hyperactive symptoms like being unable to sit quietly and still. Swimming was actually a way for Phelps to channelize his extra energy into something constructive and eventually he became an expert swimmer; one of the best ever in the world.
Jim Carrey: This award winning actor comedian is a self confessed ADHD patient. This man who is famous for his weird yet humorous antics and unbelievable facial expressions has confessed that he coped with ADHD by acting as the class clown and covering up his deficiency. As a child, Carrey found it difficult to pay attention to his classes and suffered from poor grades. His coping mechanism of being the class clown eventually became a career for him. Not only is he successful in his profession, he has also learned to cope with ADHD effectively.
